The entire Indian Society of Weed Science Family (ISWS) is shocked to hear the sudden demise of renowned weed scientist Dr. Bibhash Ray on 9th July 2021. He has left two sons behind him. Dr. Ray was not only the renowned weed scientist but he also contributed a lot in the development of Indian Society of Weed Science during the initial years of its establishment. Credit goes to Dr. Ray to design the official logo of ISWS. He served the society as Editor, ISWS Newsletter (1979-81); Editor-in-Chief, IJWS (1979-1981). He was awarded ISWS Fellow in 1993-94, and Special Recognition Award’ for the biennium 2014-15. He donated his precious collection of a vast volume of literature to DWR library including journals like Weed Science and Weed Research since 1965. The message of his unexpected departure has caused irreparable loss to weed Science. He will always be remembered for his immense contributions for weed science and ISWS.
In this tragic moment, the entire ISWS family stands together in offering our heartfelt condolences to his family. His loss is irreplaceable and his memory shall always remain with us. In view of Covid-19 Pandemic, a virtual condolence meeting was conducted on 12 July 2021 at 4.0 PM by observing two minutes silence to give tribute to departed soul. In this meeting all the members of Executive Committee of ISWS and scientists of Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur participated. We pray the Almighty to rest his soul in eternal peace and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
